construction manager jobs
Construction Managers typically report to the Construction Director and have overall control of their own projects, from inception through to completion.
Construction manager jobs involve pre and post -contract work, liaising with clients and sub-contractors alike, ensuring that projects are delivered on time and budget. A good working knowledge of the Construction industry and a proven track record in the successful delivery of commercial projects are expected for construction management jobs.
Project experience needed for construction manager jobs
Experience of working for a main contractor and running projects at a senior level is also highly desirable. There may be a requirement to travel, so flexibility is important. Training and development prospects are excellent and excellent promotional possibilities, even after relatively short periods of time, are not uncommon.
No formal qualifications are required although a CSCS card, 5 day CITB and First Aid Certificates are advantageous as is a trades background. As sustainability becomes increasingly important, construction management jobs are more likely to require a good working knowledge of environmental issues such as carbon reduction. Knowledge of building regulations and health and safety legislation is also essential.
Do you have leadership skills to influence and motivate?
Superb organisation skills, planning and decision making are all key to good construction management but perhaps more important are people skills, particularly the ability to communicate and energise teams at all levels. Further information on construction manager careers and development within the profession is available from the Chartered Institute of Building (CIOB).
