Interior Design jobs are open to qualified professionals who are tasked with enhancing the functionality and aesthetic feel of the useable space within a building.
This is a technical professional requiring strong problem solving and usually advanced computer skills with design and graphic packages. Although decoration makes up part a design project, Interior Decoration is a separate industry.
Interior Designers tend to specialise in a specific sector; due to scale of projects and frequency of change/refurbishment) the major areas are corporate offices and retail followed by hotel design and residential design.

Industry terms for levels are: Graduate, Junior, Junior Middleweight, Middleweight, Senior Middleweight and Senior. Senior can mean anything from 6 to 10+ years' experience. Seniors typically lead projects and specify the feel of the overall scheme.
Interior designers must possess strong computer skills with CAD and Adobe graphics. AutoCAD and Vectorworks are the two main industry packages (there are many others). BA (Hons) Interior Design or BA (Hons) Interior Architecture or international equivalents are the most common qualifications. Experience is more important than qualification.
